The ongoing global corona-virus pandemic has produced global consequences with the worst supposedly yet to come. And all of this because China not only failed to contain but refused to admit the severity of the situation. As a result, the world has entered an unprecedented crisis with far-reaching social, economic, and political implications.
China isn’t a responsible country
The Chinese Government kept on denying & downplaying for weeks about the severity of the growing corona-virus outbreak in Wuhan province, that eventually spread to the rest of the world. This obfuscation cost nations crucial time in preparing for and potentially curbing the damage of Covid-19. The fact is that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), already knew about COVID-19 as early as November 2019, but denied it. When doctors working in the city of Wuhan first posted about it on the Chinese state-run social media service We Chat, the state immediately jumped in to discredit the doctors and accuse them of spreading misinformation. In doing so they allowed the virus to spread and didn’t provide adequate protection for their doctors. Many of those early whistle-blowers have now either died or strangely disappeared.
China doesn’t allow to express
The Chinese Communist Party doesn’t permit political freedom assuming that, it would jeopardize its grasp on power, has constructed an Orwellian high-tech surveillance situation, and a sophisticated internet censorship system to monitor and suppress public criticism. Independent journalism is no more practiced in Mainland China. Ethnic and religious minorities like the Ulghar Muslims face severe persecutions and atrocities.
China doesn’t fulfill its promises
Until 1997, Hong Kong was ruled by Britain as a colony, was later returned to China with some treaty agreements. Under the “one country, two systems” arrangement, Hong Kong has some autonomy, and its people more rights. Under the “one country, two systems” the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) would not practice the socialist system in mainland China, and Hong Kong’s existing capitalist system and way of life would be unchanged for 50 years until 2047.
But, China has introduced a new national security law for Hong Kong. It includes new crimes with severe penalties – up to life in prison – and allows security personnel to legally operate in Hong Kong with impunity. This legislation also gives Beijing extensive powers to shape life in Hong Kong far beyond the legal system.
China doesn’t follow the International Rules or Laws
In the South China sea, without basis, as evidenced in the court (United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS)) they lost to the Philippines (but refuse to accept), they claim their right on the whole sea. This in effect subjugates neighboring countries that have a more valid claim to the sea area adjacent to their countries. Instead, China has been arrogant & claims the sea area and islands close to Japan/Vietnam as theirs. They have built artificial islands in the South China sea with the intent of carrying out war-operations, which proves their expansion ideology.

Conclusion
There’s a growing consensus that behind the Chinese economic colossus is a threat to not just the United States and other Western democracies, but the very concepts of free speech and personal liberty, not to mention property rights and the rule of law that we consider the foundations of civilization.
